Tandem flight over Sunset Beach

The Tandem Experience:

The exhilaration of first flight has never been easier than with one of our Tandem Instructional flight programs. You can experience flight by launching from either a mountainside, or directly from a sandy beach with our tow launched Introductory Tandem Experience program.

Before your flight, your instructor will guide you through a brief ground school session that will introduce you to the fundamentals of paraglider control, launching, and landing. Then you will spend a few minutes in our flight simulator to get a 'feel' for how the glider flies. When you are finished and ready to go, you will be off on your first Paragliding flight! With favorable weather conditions, you will even be allowed to take the controls of the glider and, with a little coaching, actually be able fly it yourself.

As you near the end of your flight, your instructor will again take the controls for the final approach and landing.

Afterwards, you will never look at the sky the same way again!

Introductory Tandem Experience

Our revolutionary towing system enables us to offer tow launched tandem flights from many of the scenic beaches in Oregon and SW Washington. The instructor and student launch in a two place glider directly from the sandy beach, then climb as high as 3000 feet over launch, (conditions permitting). All while enjoying breathtaking views with ample opportunity for the student to get 'hands on' time at the controls of the glider to fully experience flight. Sunset Beach, just north of Seaside, Oregon, is our most frequent venue for our Tandem training flights, providing spectacular scenery and fresh air, all followed by a soft landing on the beach, commonly right back where you launched from.

Mountain Tandem Experience

For those that would prefer flying from a mountain location, we offer our Mountain Tandem Experience. There are several sites located within 1 1/2 hours of downtown Portland that offer memories to last a lifetime. Our favorite sites are located in the Columbia Gorge, near Mt. St. Helens, and in the Tillamook valley area. Each site has it's own benefits: flying over coastal cliffs above the sea, to flying in the blast zone of our local volcano. Incredible only barely begins to describe the sensation of flying over such scenery.

Our Mountain Tandem Experience is best suited for those with a flexible schedule as the sites are very weather dependent, and we would only be able to choose the venue with a few days notice. Also, be aware that some of these sites may require the ability to hike up a gentle slope for approximately 30 minutes, and due to varying thermal conditions we can't guarantee 'hands on' time at mountain locations.

One and Two Day Introductory Courses:

Our one and two day introductory courses are designed for those who would prefer learning to fly completely 'solo'. If you are already sure that paragliding is for you, than this is a great way to get started.

The first day begins with a brief discussion about glider components, after which the student will spend several hours gaining ground handling experience. The normal day ends with a few short flights from either our training hill, or from our tow system.

The second day builds on the skills of the first, allowing ample time for longer and higher flights. New techniques will be introduced, including tricks for higher winds and some alternative launch methods. The two-day does not need to be consecutive, but information retention is best if completed within 2-3 weeks.

Beginner Program:

Our Beginner Training Program takes you from your first day up to the point where you are ready for that first launch from a higher elevation, typically greater than 1000'. This course is designed for people who are not yet convinced they want the full course, but want to at least take the first steps toward their solo rating.

Novice Program:

Our Novice Training Program takes you from the first day to a level of experience where you are capable and qualified to make your own flight decisions. As you progress through this program you will be introduced to coastal and thermal flying sites, tow launching, beginning ridge and thermal soaring techniques, tandem instructional flights, practical flight theory, and much more. We take great pride that our Beginner and Novice programs are the most complete in the area, and that our graduated students consistently reflect this fact.

Continuing Education:

We offer training well beyond the basics with many differing advanced programs. Most are custom tailored to meet the needs and wants of the individual student. With courses designed for the developing intermediate pilot, through the advanced levels, each pilot is sure to find what ever he or she may be looking for.

We routinely schedule XC towing clinics, regional tours, over the water safety training, and even some basic aerobatics training with the help of some of our associated instructors.
